One vendor, two products, zero shared answers
Freshsales owns the pipeline: contacts, deals, owners, stages. Freshmarketer owns email engagement: subscription status, opens, unsubscribes. They are sold as a suite, and on many accounts they even share contacts. What they do not share is a screen that answers the question that matters: who in my sales pipeline has opted out of hearing from us? The subscription status sits behind one API, the pipeline behind another, and joining them is left to you.
Why this gap has teeth
- Compliance. Depending on where you operate and what the email says, mailing opted-out contacts ranges from bad manners to a legal violation. "Sales did not know" is not a fun defense.
- Deliverability. People who unsubscribed and keep getting mail are the people who click the spam button. Spam complaints hurt delivery for your whole domain, marketing included.
- Lost signal. An unsubscribe from a mid-pipeline contact is information. Maybe the deal is cooling. Maybe your champion changed roles. If sales never sees the status change, the signal is wasted.
The join, as a button
Our Freshsales and Freshmarketer bridge does the two-API join for you. Pick any Freshsales contact view, and it adds each contact's Freshmarketer subscription status as a column, then gives you the result as a CSV. Filter to your open-deal contacts, sort by status, and the "who are we mailing that opted out" list is simply there, with owners attached, ready for a Monday morning conversation.
Both API keys are used in memory for the run and stored nowhere. The tool reads from both products and writes to neither.
Two products from one vendor should not need a third product to answer one question. And yet.
Make it a habit, not a rescue
Run the bridge monthly and send the output to sales ops. Ten minutes a month keeps the pipeline honest, the domain reputation clean, and the compliance conversation permanently boring. That is the best kind of compliance conversation.
Frequently asked questions
Can Freshsales show a contact's Freshmarketer subscription status?
Not in a usable pipeline-wide way. Subscription status lives in Freshmarketer's API and pipeline data in Freshsales', with no built-in report joining the two. An external join via both APIs is the practical fix.
Is it a compliance risk if sales emails unsubscribed contacts?
It can be, depending on jurisdiction and whether the email counts as marketing. At minimum it invites spam complaints that damage sender reputation. Surfacing subscription status inside the sales workflow is the reliable prevention.
How often should I audit pipeline contacts against unsubscribes?
Monthly works for most teams. The join takes minutes with a bridge tool, and a monthly rhythm catches status changes before a sequence of follow-ups goes out to someone who opted out.
